Hazel Worthington

Hazel Marie Anderson Worthington, 82, passed away peacefully among her family and friends Friday, November 26, 2021.

Hazel was born May 3, 1939, in Kimeo, KS the daughter of Otis and Maxine Heath Anderson.

Hazel loved being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker. While her children were in school, she worked with the school lunch program at the St. Marys Hill School.  She was a valued employee at the St. Marys Manor doing many jobs working alongside many wonderful people she called friends. Her care for the residents was second to none.  She later retired and worked alongside her husband, James, helping with the cattle and farms.  She was an active member of St. Marys United Methodist Church since 1961.  She taught Sunday school and helped with many church dinners and activities.  She loved her church family.  She was a member of the Kaw Better Home FCE and the St. Marys Historical Society.  Hazel and James moved to the St. Marys community in 1961.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph Anderson and Richard Dean Anderson.

On April 14, 1957, Hazel and James O. Worthington were united in marriage in Marysville.  He survives at home.

Other survivors she loved include her son, Travis Worthington, MO, daughter, Tena (Paul) Cassity, Hartford; siblings, Ruth Neil, Greenleaf, James (Jeris) Anderson, Meriden, Marlene Rowland, Clay Center, Maxine (Larry) Plegge, Marysville, Gayle (Dean) Link, Clay Center, and Susan Anderson (wife of the late Ralph Anderson), Topeka; two grandchildren, James Cole Douglas (DiShannon) Cassity, and their child Cora Mae Elizabeth Cassity with one on the way, Neosho Rapids, and Christian Cord Cassity, Colorado.  Honorary family members include Les and Deb Stein family and Karen Zoglman.

Hazel will be dearly missed by her family and friends and remembered as a warm and caring lady who was a friend to all.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the St. Marys United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the service.  A luncheon will be served following the service.  Interment will be at 2:30 P.M., Thursday at Riverside Cemetery, Waterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Methodist Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
