William Linder

William Glenn "Jack" Linder Jr, 89 of Wamego, Kansas was born in Broken Bow, NE to Glenn Linder and DeLisle Kimball Linder on March 15, 1928. He married Marrydeanne Brindell on September 21, 1948. To their union were born 3 children; Randy Glen, Rodrick Jay and Rebel Lee. Jack passed away March 21, 2017. Jack proudly served in the United States Navy from 1946-1948. Upon his return to his hometown, Broken Bow, NE, he delivered bulk fuel for his father's Texaco Bulk plant, and he ran Jack's Texaco station on Highway2 in partnership with his father Glenn Linder for many years. Jack also proudly served on the Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years. Not only was he a firefighter, he was also a storm spotter and EMT. It seemed as though he knew everyone and treated everyone he met like family. Later Jack and his wife Mary ran the Travel Chain of NE, a local travel agency, with offices in Broken Bow, North Platte and Kearney, NE. The two loved to travel together and would often take impromptu trips. The travel agency was their way of expanding horizons outside of the community. Jack also ran Bart and Jack's Fire Service for a number of years, selling police and fire equipment, ambulances, fire trucks, and hearses. After leaving Broken Bow, Jack lived for a time in Forsyth, MO, and eventually settled in Wamego, KS to be near his daughter and granddaughter. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and DeLisle Linder, his son Randy Glen Linder, his wife Marydeanne Linder, his son Rodrick Jay Linder and his sister Virginia Doughty. Survivors include: His daughter Rebel (Randy) Eichelberger of Belvue KS. Daughter-in-law, Joleen McCandless Stewart of Broken Bow NE, Daughter in law, Creta Vincent of Chipta Park, CO, Nephew Mike (Barbara) Doughty of Winsor, CANADA, and special friend Ann Coulson of Wamego, KS. Grandchildren: Tiffany (Jared) Cox of Westmoreland, KS, Tana Stone of NE, Amber (Duane) Corbin of Broken Bow, NE, Jaide (Jacob) Downs of Bend, OR, Lacey Linder of Colorado Springs, CO, and Leah Linder of Grand Junction, CO. Great grandchildren: Randal Adams Corbin, Makenzie and Tyler Bonser, Thaddeus James Taylor, and Kanon Matthew Cox. Jack was a past master mason of the Masonic lodge of Broken Bow, NE and a member of the Broken Bow Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce, Jr. Chamber, Elks Lodge and the Cosmopolitan Club. In his spare time, he loved to fish and traveled sea to sea to conquer each big game fish. He was awarded Master angler award for his 19.5lb pike he caught in Sargent, NE which didn't compare to the fight that his prized marlin gave him. Jack made sure to pass down his tradition of fishing, his personal values, and responsibility to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a man of honor and integrity, something to be valued. He was an avid Husker football fan and a proud Nebraskan. Jack was particularly proud to have been chosen to participate in the May 2014 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. A celebration of Jack's life will be held Sunday, March 26th at 5:00 pm at the Wells Creek Church in Belvue, KS. Piper Funeral Home in St. Mary's KS is in charge of arrangements. Grave side services will take place at the Broken Bow, NE Cemetery on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm. with full military honors and Broken Bow Fire Department honors. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the family, and the Broken Bow Fire Department.
