Susan Blythe Carpenter

Susan Blythe (Chelson) Carpenter, 60, of Topeka, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer on March 20, 2024. 

She was born on February 11, 1964, the daughter of Gerald and Marsha (Legg) Chelson. She was raised in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1982 and attended Washburn University. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Susan was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Susan married the love of her life, Albert Carpenter, on July 2, 1983. They went on to have four children to whom she was a devoted, selfless mother and homemaker. Susan was the neighborhood mom, caring for all who walked through her door.

Susan was an avid supporter of all her children's endeavors, traveling to countless extracurricular activities. She was known as Grandma to five grandchildren and was highly involved in all their lives.

If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Susan, you knew her unique Southern drawl and contagious laugh drew you in and made you feel right at home. 

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Albert Carpenter, her children, Chelsea Carpenter, Bradley Carpenter (Bailee), Andrew Carpenter (Laura), and Dustin Carpenter (Jeri), her three sisters, Marchelle Atkins, Cathryn Tunnell, and Sarah Chelson and her five grandchildren, Arianna, Aiden, Drew, Graham Carpenter and Rhett Rohrke.

Susan will be fondly remembered during the visitation service to be held at West Side Baptist Church of Topeka, 1008 SW 4th St. on March 25, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at the same location at 11:00 AM to honor and celebrate her life.
