Richard Deiter

Richard J. Deiter, 95, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born February 9, 1923 on a farm near Paxico the son of Phillip Andrew and Nannie Mae Davis Deiter. Richard grew up near Maple Hill and attended Maple Hill Schools. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Richard worked for the V.A. Hospital in Topeka for 30 years. He farmed in the West Union Community for over 50 years. In his younger years he was a milkman and hauled trash for Maple Hill. Richard was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Topeka. On February 27, 1945 he was united in marriage to Sybil L. Clark in St. Marys. She preceded him in death on Nov 5, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Larry, Jim, George, Mary, Agnes, Alice, Virginia, Helen and Marge. Survivors include his three sons, Andrew Deiter Sr. (Winona) Lawrence, Richard Deiter II (Mary) and David Deiter (Joan) all of Topeka; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 29 , 2018 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Topeka. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 28 from 2:00 until 3:30 P.M. followed by a rosary at the church. Interment will be in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ The King Catholic Church or Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
