Oscar J. Gideon, 73, of Emmett, died on Monday, July 15 at his home.
Oscar was born on August 14, 1950, in rural Emmett, KS to Oscar Dean and Doris E. (Johnston) Gideon.
Oscar was awarded 1st place in the Western US 4H Tractor Operator’s Contest in Laramie, WY and he grew up and farmed in the Emmett community. In 1974, he moved to Washington state where he had a repair and bulldozing business.
On December 21, 1976, he married Birgit Frese and together they went long haul trucking in 1984. Oscar settled back in Emmett in 1991 and opened another repair and bulldozing business.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm, Thursday, July 18 at Mt. Olive Cemetery in rural Jackson County, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Oscar's memory may be made to the Johnson Cancer Research Center at KSU, 1 Chalmers Hall, 1711 Claflin Rd., Manhattan, KS 66506.
