Melvin Seele

Belvue-Melvin G. Seele, 84, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at a Topeka hospital. He was born May 14, 1930 in rural Belvue, the son of George J. and Leona L. Hafenstein Seele. Melvin served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. He had lived in the Wells Creek and St Marys communities all of his life. Melvin worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka until his retirement. He also was a farmer. Melvin was a member of the American Legion and was a past member of the Optimist Club. Melvin and Rita were members of the Twilight Twirlers Square-dance Club. On September 12, 1951 he was united in marriage to Rita Shelton in St. Marys. She preceded him in death on June 3, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry and Lloyd Seele; a sister, Diann Northup; and his granddaughter, Ashely Seele Jones. Survivors include two sons, Michael G. Seele, New Glarus, WI. and Mark J. (Lonie) Seele, Belvue; his daughter, Melinda J. Seele, Wamego; three brothers, Ivan Seele, Paxico, Leroy Seele, in Texas and Tom Seele, Ft. Myers, FL; two sisters, Marcella Lundin, Delia and Karen Olson, Sterling; three grandsons, Justin, Eirk and David. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Inurnment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 19th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Melvin G. Seele Memorial Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
