Lena Ginter

Topeka-Lena Blanche Ginter, 104, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Topeka. She was born September 10, 1911 in Rural Wabaunsee County the daughter of Robert and Mary Murdie Shumate. Mrs. Ginter attended #6 country school and graduated from Dover High School in 1929. She attended Kansas State Agricultural College in Manhattan. Mrs. Ginter taught in one room schools in Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties. She and her husband Louis farmed many years in the Eskridge and Dover communities. After retirement they moved to Harveyville where they lived for 25 years. They moved to Topeka on July 4, 1999. Mrs. Ginter was a member of the Haskell Creek Club and served on the Lone Tree School Board. She quilted at the Harveyville Methodist Church for several years. On May 8, 1934 she was united in marriage to Louis W. Ginter at Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a twin sister and two brothers; a son, Marvin Ginter; a grandson, Kevin Crow and her son-in-law, Alvin Moran. Survivors include her son, Phil (Linda) Ginter, Topeka; two daughters, Marjorie (Byron) Crow, Topeka and Zelda Moran, Dover; 15 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Inurnment services for Mr. & Mrs. Ginter will be private at the Dover Cemetery. Memorials may be made in their name and sent to Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
