John Olivas

John Joseph Olivas 79, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at his home in St. Marys. He was born January 13, 1939 at Ft. Collins, CO. the son of Adelaido and Mary Valdez Olivas. John lived nearly all of his life in Ft. Collins. He served in the United States Navy for 10 years. John was a psychiatric hospital tech in Pueblo for several years. After being honorably discharged from the Navy he returned to Ft. Collins where he worked for Public Service Gas & Electric for 25 years before his retirement. John was a member of Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. He was devoted to his faith and to his family's happiness. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to travel. On December 30, 1961 he was united in marriage to Beatrice Aguirre in Ft. Collins. He is survived by his wife Beatrice of the home. Other survivors include two sons, John (Tammy) Olivas, Ft. Collins and Matt (Debbie) Olivas, Thornton, CO; his daughter, Juanita (John) Morgali, St. Marys; a brother, Laurence (Eleanor) Olivas, Ft. Collins; two sisters, Nina (Tom) Whitehead and Barbara (Lenny, deceased) Ruibal, all of Ft. Collins; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Requiem Funeral Mass will be at 6:50 A.M. Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Interment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Marys. Mr. Olivas will lie in state from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 5:20 P.M at the Assumption Chapel.
