JoAnn Marie DeVader (Hare), 71, of Emmett, Kansas died Sunday December 14, 2025. She is the daughter of the late LeRoy and Carol (Johnson) Hare.
JoAnn was born January 8, 1954 in Neodesha, Kansas. As a child, she enjoyed talking about the various animals her extended family raised and trained. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1972 where she enjoyed participating in the band as a flutist.
In her early twenties, she met her husband, Greg DeVader at a street dance in Emmett. They were married at First Baptist Church in Topeka on June 7, 1980 and remained faithfully married for 45 years until her last breath.
JoAnn was a jack of all trades, pursuing many endeavors in work including, Avon sales representative, working at a vegetable market, paraprofessional, and various restaurants and gas stations.
Those that knew her well knew she had much to say and would speak her mind no matter what. She was protective of her family and held that as her number one priority.
She enjoyed spending time with her donkeys, sewing, gardening, and spending time chatting with her friends. She was an avid lover of plants.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her mother, Carol D. (Johnson) Hare; brother, Walter Phillips; father, LeRoy Hare, Sr.; sister Lori Guffey; and nephew Joseph Hare.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Greg DeVader; son, Clint DeVader; daughter, Jenna Peters; daughter, Whitney (Keith) Long; grandchildren Alex and Dannielle Peters, Jada DeVader, and Colton, Wesley, and Lillian Long; great grandchild Ivy Miller; step-mother Frances Criger; sister Sondra (Mick) Jones, brother LeRoy Hare Jr.; brother Steve (Dorothy) Hare; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5-7PM at Piper Funeral Home. A mass will be held at Immaculate Conception in St. Marys on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 10:00 am followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
