Hazel Kemp

Hartford-Hazel E. Kemp, 87, formerly of Eskridge passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at her home in Hartford. She was born December 22, 1930 in Topeka, the daughter of Guy A. and Helen Lucille Brelsford Sterrett. Hazel graduated from Washburn Rural High School with the class of 1948. Hazel had lived in the Eskridge community many years before moving to Hartford in 2012. She was a cashier at the Flint Hills Bank many years retiring in 1993. She later was the bookkeeper at the Eskridge Lumber CO. She was a member of the Eskridge Presbyterian Church. She had served two terms on USD No. 330 School Board and two terms on the Eskridge City Council, she also served as the treasurer for the city of Eskridge. She was a member of the Eskridge Labor Day Rodeo Committee for 15 years. Hazel was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was united in marriage to Dale M. Kemp on July 8, 1950 at Kansas City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2008, she was also preceded in death by her son Richard Dale Kemp on April 11, 2011; brothers, Bill, Bob, Jim, and Joe Sterrett; sisters, Dorothy Neil, Helen Sterrett and Sarah Graham. Survivors include her son, Randall (Deanna) Kemp, Eskridge; her daughter, Ronda (Rex) Truelove, Hartford; daughter-in-law Connie Kemp, Eskridge; her companion, Don Truelove of the home; brother-in law, Larry Graham, Pittsburg; sisters-in-law, Madeline Sterrett, Holton, and Wilma Sterrett in Arizona; six grandchildren, Tyler (Kerri), Drew (Kristi), Quinton (Kara), Courtland (Kyle), Tamara (Chet) and David (Chalene); 7 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends with a Celebration of Life on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Hartford United Methodist Church from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Eskridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford United Methodist Women or to the Eskridge Fire Fighter Association and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
