Gladys Pollmann

Gladys Eveline (Kjellberg) Pollmann, 99, was called to her eternal home on November 12, 2013 at Eastridge Care Facility in Centralia. She was born on February 9, 1914 at the rural home of her parents, Andrew and Ellen (Peterson) Kjellberg near Vliets. She attended District 13 grade school but left high school her sophomore year to work on the family farm. While also farming she worked for Montgomery Wards Co and Baker's Motors in Marysville. She married George Pollmann at her sister's home near Centralia on September 1, 1945. They farmed before moving to Centralia in 1951. She worked part-time for Hightower's Grocery Store in Centralia, KS in the early 1960's. Then in 1965 Gladys and her husband moved to the Paxico area where they managed the first Stuckey Store in KS located on I-70 & Snokomo Rd. then transferred to the Vera Rd. location. In 1976 they moved into a new rural home on Vera Rd. and Gladys retired in 1978. Gladys was a fantastic seamstress and enjoyed sewing many things for others. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing and watching the Royals baseball games. Most of all though, she loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When her husband's health failed they moved to the Senior Apartments in Maple Hill before entering the Eastridge Facility in May 2001. Gladys was confirmed into the Salem Lutheran Church at the age of 14 and later became a member of the Centralia Congregational Church and the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and a son, Morris Pollmann and her husband, George in 2006 Survivors include a daughter Joyce Gudenkauf and husband Robert (Bob), Paxico; daughter-in-law, Roxie Hund, Lakeland, FL; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jared Gudenkauf and daughters, Ashton & Jessy, Meriden, Janelle (Jared) Schultz, Karsen and Dawson, Maple Hill, Shelley Miles, Landon and Megan, Fennimore,WI, Emily (Mark) Shoup, Ethen, Emmett and Kyle, Roundup, MT, and step-great-grandson, Scotty Cavanaugh. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 10:45. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastridge Care Facility or the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home.
