Gerard Cain

Emmett-Gerard M. Cain, 52, Emmett, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born October 31, 1961 at Tempe, AZ, the son of Sylvester H. and Patricia McCarthy Cain. Gerard grew up in Leonardtown, MD, and graduated from high school there.

Gerard moved to the St. Marys area in 1990. He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. He was a member of Assumption Chapel in St. Marys and United Steelworkers Local 307 in Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Keith David and his sister, Therese A. Hoffman.

On June 15, 1985 he was united in marriage to Deborah Long at Morganza, MD. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Sister Marie Andrea, Pamela, Caroline, Keith, Brother Jeremias, Emily, Peter, Benjamin, Philip, Alan, Jonathan, Rachel and Steven Cain: one brother, Kevin Cain; sisters, Mary (Kevin) Fifer, Virginia (James) Bryan, Sheila (Dennis) Kosmicki, Brenda (Tim) Sellbach, and Aileen (Jason) Henderson.

Requiem Mass will be at 9:00 A.M. Friday, December 27, 2013 at Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Mr. Cain will lie in state at the funeral home from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. Thursday, December 26, 2013 where the family will receive friends and the Rosary will be recited at 5:50 P.M. at the church. Interment will be in our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Memorials are asked to be in the form of Masses for the repose of his soul and may be sent to Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, KS 66536.
