Gerald W. Martin, affectionately known as "Odie," was born on April 20, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life in the early morning hours of May 5, 2025, in Council Grove, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love for family, and cherished memories that will endure.

Gerald's career as an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad, where he dedicated himself to both shop work and locomotive maintenance beginning in 1966 until his well-deserved retirement. His commitment to his vocation was a testament to his work ethic and dedication.

Beyond his professional achievements, he was always there to help a friend in need. Gerald lived a full and vibrant life enriched by his hobbies and interests. He was an avid athlete, playing softball for the Santa Fe Railroad recreation team, and he embraced the great outdoors through his love of hunting, fishing, and camping. Gerald also enjoyed spending time watching baseball, which was a source of joy and relaxation for him.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Lorrie Niedfeldt, of Maple Hill, Kansas, and his son, Albert Martin, of Topeka, Kansas. Gerald was also a proud grandfather to Sabastian Martin, Gunnar Martin, and Tyler Niedfeldt, with whom he shared countless fond memories.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Wayne Martin and Doris Lorene (Woody) Martin, as well as his sisters, Karen Sweircinsky of Maple Hill and Winona Hollis of Olathe. His family appreciates those who have offered their support during this time of mourning.

Per his wishes, Gerald was cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held at Dover Cemetery on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 2 PM. As we remember Gerald W. Martin, we honor a devoted family man and a dedicated worker who leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and resonate with all who knew him.
