Rita Violet Freeman, at the age of 71, passed into eternity on June 12, 2026, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Rita is survived by her children: Jason (Melissa), Isaiah (Tanya), Jeremiah (Melissa), Dominic (Ashley), Bernadette, Nicholas (Willow), Kathleen, Steven (Joan), Benjamin (April), Christopher, Cecilia, and Sebastian. Siblings: Mike, Robert, Roger, Denise and Doris. She also leaves behind 43 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy and pride to her life.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Steve, daughter Tammy, parents Marcel and Juliette Theberge, sister Rosanne, brother Art, and grandson Phineas.

Rita was born on March 11,1955 to Marcel and Juliette Theberge in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. She lived there with her family until her marriage to Steve in 1972. Just a few years later, in 1978, they courageously moved their growing family from Michigan to St. Mary’s, KS, being one of the first families to do so. This move was to give their family the Catholic faith and a good Catholic education provided by the SSPX.

Rita will be remembered for the deep love she had for her family, and her Catholic faith. She had an unforgettable sarcastic sense of humor, even known to spontaneously start dancing in public places, much to the embarrassment of her children and friends. Rita and her sisters had a very special bond and when they were together there was always lots of laughter and shenanigans. She was always generous with her time volunteering for many camps, retreats and always willing to lend a hand when needed.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and many friends. The family is grateful for the prayers, love, and support shown during this difficult time. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for Masses to be offered for the repose of Rita's soul.

A rosary will be recited at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026 at the Immaculata in St. Marys. A Requiem Mass will be offered for Rita at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, also at the Immaculata, with burial following at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in St. Marys. The family is grateful for all the prayers and outpouring of support.
