Larry Dean Schmidt, born on October 28, 1955, in San Francisco, California, passed away on February 28, 2026, at the Colmery-O'Neill VA Medical Center in Topeka, KS. Larry proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army, demonstrating his commitment to duty and service.

As a skilled carpenter, Larry dedicated many years to the construction industry, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and craftsmanship. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his ability to bring projects to life with his hands.

Larry was raised as a Protestant but found the Catholic Faith through a local SSPX priest in California and he became a devoted Catholic. After his retirement, he moved with his family to St. Marys, KS to grow further in his Catholic faith and for the Catholic school.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa Schmidt, and their daughter, Maria Magdalena Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Autumn Beurman; brothers, Gary and Carl, and his sister, Bonnie Miller. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A rosary for Larry will be offered at 5:20 PM, on Wednesday, March 4 at The Immaculata, 701 N. 2nd Street in St. Marys. A sung requiem mass will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 5, also at The Immaculata, with burial following in Our Lady of Peace cemetery. A luncheon after the burial will take place in St. Joseph's Hall and all are welcome to attend. If you plan to attend the luncheon, please bring a side dish to share.
