Obituary

Lawrence—Doris Marie Shove, 86, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.

 She was born January 20, 1933, at Summerfield in Marshall County, Kansas the daughter of Thomas Edward and Emma May Broughard Davey.  Doris graduated from Frankfort High School.  As a freshman, she was recruited by the girls’ basketball team and played on the varsity team for the next four years.  Doris loved her family deeply; she also had a great love for animals. She enjoyed watching basketball and was an avid KU fan.

 Doris had worked at Lawrence High School and Free State High School both in Lawrence.  She helped raise her grandchildren (Kenneth James and Carolyn Marie) and her great-grandchildren (Alianna, Braeden, Seeley, and Roan).

On June 4, 1956, she was united in marriage to Galen L. Shove at Frankfort.  He preceded her in death on November 14, 1977.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Eugene “Skeeter” Davey; two sisters, Erma Louise Davey Johnson and Helen Rosalie Davey Black

 Survivors include her daughter, Jo Ann Williams, Lawrence; a son, Rev. George Michael Shove, Burlington; grandchildren, Kenneth James Williams, Carolyn Marie Culbertson, Christopher, Sarah, Anna, Valencia and James Shove; great-grandchildren, Chase, Alianna, Braeden, Seeley and Roan; nephews, Rick, Wayne, and Stephen Johnson, and Russell Davey; nieces, Linda Davey, Susan Black and Janet Silver.

 Memorial services will be in the spring.  Inurnment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys.  Memorial contributions may be made in Doris’ name and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.  To leave online condolences go to www.piperfuneralhome.com.
