Bobby L. Gentry
August 25, 1927 - February 9, 2010
Rossville-Bobby L. Gentry, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
He was born August 25, 1927 at rural Simpson, the son of James Roy and Melba Marguerite Huffman Gentry. He grew up in the Simpson community and graduated from high school there. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Gentry had been a farmer in the Rossville community since 1947. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. He also was a 50 year member of Lake Lodge No. 50, Silver Lake. He was a member of the Arab Temple in Topeka and the Kaw Valley Shrine Club. Mr. Gentry was a charter member of Jimmie Lillard Post No.31 of the American Legion in Rossville.
He was united in marriage to Linda Pallister Fenis on December 14, 1985. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, James (Shari) Gentry, Rossville; two daughters, Jo Anna (Dave) Cowser, Topeka and Teresa (Kerry) Lacock, McCracken; a brother, Billy (Beverly) Gentry, Rossville; two sisters, Betty Dick and Barbara (Pete) Dudney, all of Rossville; aunts, Elizabeth Gentry, Beloit, and June Wilkins and Marjorie Williams both of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Jacob, Derek and Trent Gentry, Krew, Keera and Kelton Lacock and D.J. Cowser; many nieces and nephews along with friends. Bobby will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Rossville United Methodist Church, where a Masonic service conducted by Lake Lodge No 50 will be held. Interment with military graveside services by Jimmie Lillard Post No.31 of the American Legion will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Gentry will lie in state after 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 12, 2010 at the church where family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville Senior Center or Midland Respite Care and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
